I saw similar locks at the hands of Norwegian soldiers a few years ago. These locks, manufactured in France, are conceptually similar to those used with Nordic ski boards, but allow the user to employ conventional, military or mountain-style boots instead of special, expensive or heavy models such as those used normally for skiing.

After refurbishing and making some adaptations, we fixed these locking devices to our new ski boards. The most important adaptations were centred around the use of standard components (i.e. bolts, screws, etc.) that we already used in other projects, such as weapons, shelters, etc. in order to reduce potential logistical problems.

These boards that we have designed have the following features:

1)- A very lightweight construction, based mainly on the use of polyurethane, neoprene and silicones.

2)- A rather broader shape, when compared with more traditional designs. These boards are shorter and broader than any nordic or alpine ski design.
