RALT - Radio Altimeter or Radar Altimeter; these instruments rely on a signal sent by a radar to calculate height above ground level, as opposed to barometric altimeters that calculate altitude respect to sea or ground level taking atmospheric pressure as their main parameter. The main advantage of a RALT is that it constantly updates height data, as opposed to a BALT or conventional altimeter, making it better for low-altitude flights and final approaches.
