Wakhi - An ethnic group that inhabits the Wakhan corridor or valley and surrounding areas; its members reach 45.000 individuals, and are distributed among Tajikistan, China, Afghanistan and Pakistan. About one quarter of that number inhabit the almost-desolated Wakhan valley. They speak Wakhi, an Indo-European language and are Islamic.
