Park, Mungo - Mungo Park (1771, 1806) was a Scottish explorer that travelled twice to the African continent seeking adventure and glory. On his first expedition he was captured by some Muslim brigands and set to be sold as a slave; however, he managed to escape. The goal of his trip was to learn more about the Niger river over which there were intense discussions at the time in Europe, and to find the almost mythical city of Timbuktu, described centuries earlier by Leo Africanus. In his second expedition he tried to avoid past mistakes by being more discrete in his movements but sadly, was taken mistakenly by a marauder and shot.
