Peters, Karl - Karl Peters (1856-1918) was a German historian, philosophers, journalist and explorer; he was also co- founder of the 'Society for German colonisation' (Gesellschaft für Deutsche Kolonisation) that promoted Germans settlements by means of dubious treaties with local chieftains. These treaties established allegedly the perpetual friendship between Germany and different tribes in Africa, plus significant land concessions and exploitation rights. Over the years, accusations of mistreatment and cruelty had him sacked off his official positions.
