Overweg, Adolf - Adolf Overweg (1822-1852) was a German astronomer and geologist that took part of the second expedition of James Richardson to Africa (1850.) After losing contact with the expedition's leader, Overweg and Heinrich Barth had success exploring Lake Tchad and Overweg became the first European ever to circumnavigate it. He also explored the Benue river and the Adamawa emirate but died because of malaria before he could reach Timbuktu.
