Grant, James Augustus - James Augustus Grant (1827-1892) was a veteran Scottish born soldier that became an explorer while stationed in India. He leaded an expedition in which John Hanning Specke took part to the detriment – somewhat – of Burton, his former associate. Grant and Specke said to have found the sources of the Nile but their claim was rejected by Burton on the basis that they had not completely surveyed some areas that they intended to explore and hence could not really said for sure that the sources that they described were in fact the actual sources of the river Nile.
