Livingstone, David - David Livingstone (1813-1873) was a medical doctor, a missionary and Scottish explorer that devoted his life to exploring Africa, where he finally died. He found and christened the Victoria falls to honour the Queen of England and became quite a popular character that embodied many values of Victorian society. In fact, he became the archetypal explorer until the coming of age of modern role models such as Indiana Jones, a movie character based in Roy Chapman Andrews, another real-life explorer.
