Kirk, John - Sir John Kirk (1832-1922) was a manager, medical doctor, botanist and explorer of Scottish origin that accompanied Dr. David Livingstone in his African expeditions. He is noted also for his struggle against slave trade, particularly in Zanzibar. In private, Kirk questioned Livingstone's ability to lead expeditions, particularly during their Zambesi adventure on the basis of the illnesses that Dr. Livingstone was suffering (malaria and dysenteria) and likely obscured his ability to reason logically.
