Leichhardt, Friederich Wilhelm Ludwig - Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Leichhardt (1813-1843) was a German philosopher, linguist and explorer that leaded three major expeditions inside Australia, vanishing during the course of the last one; he was not to to be seen ever again. Augustus Gregory, Duncan McIntyre and John Forrest were sent in different rescue missions but they managed to find only a handful of evidence on the fate of the Leichhardt expedition, such as L-shaped carvings in tree barks, as they accustomed to do to mark their path. Other expeditions also found some remains, but so far and up to this date, the fate of Leichhardt remains unknown.
