Carnegie, David Wynford - David Wynford Carnegie (1871-1900) was born in England but developed his career as an explorer and gold seeker in Australia despite his apparent lack of success. He is noted for having found apparently some evidence of a former expedition that is often considered to be the ill-fated Leichhardt party. Some years later he obtained an official position in Nigeria and while working in that capacity was shot with a poisoned arrow and died.
