Sedgwick, Adam - Adam Segdwick (1785-1873) was an English mathematician that formed part of the group of people that created from nothing the science that is now geology. Despite his extensive academic background, he became a staunch opponent of Darwin's ideas. He is credited with the description of Cambrian rocks based on the works of Murchison, as well as for the description of Devonian and Carboniferous strata.
