Uniformism - A theory proposed by John Hutton that states that our planet's conformation owes its present state to slow and progressive changes. This view, when proposed, was in direct contradiction with catastrophism, which was the most commonly accepted way of understanding geological facts. uniformism became a scientific as well as philosophical principle that assumes that physical laws apply in the same way all thorough the universe, both in extension and time.
