Playfair, John - John Playfair (1748-1819) was a Scottish philosopher and mathematician who, based on Hutton's works in the realm of geology began popularising the notion of uniformism, in opposition to the current views on geology that were set then in catastrophism as a base paradigm that explained changes in Earth's structure.
