Almásy, László Ede - Count László Ede Almásy (1895-1951) was am eccentric Hungarian explorer, car racer, aviator and soldier; he said that he had discovered the city of Zerzura in one of his expeditions, and came across the Magyarab tribe. During WWI he served in the Austro-Hungarian armed forces, and in WWII he fought with the Afrika Korps and was decorated with the Iron Cross by Marshall Rommel, for his actions during the course of special operations. In the same conflict he managed to save a number of Jews and after the war he returned to Egypt to become the director of a research institution. He became the base character for 'The English Patient.'
