Harris, William Cornwallis - Sir William Cornwallis Harris (1807-1848), born in England, he became a military engineer, hunter and drawing artist. Despite the fact that he was stationed in India, he travelled profusely thorough Africa and bears the distinction of having been the first person in history to describe with accuracy the African fauna by means of paintings and drawings. Those trips were possible to a large extent due to the fact that missionary Robert Moffat, whom he met once in the continent was befriended with local native chiefs.
