Pretorius, Andries Wilhelmus Jacobus - Andries Wilhelmus Jacobus Pretorius (1798-1853) was born in what is now South Africa; he was one of the leaders of the Voortrekkers and the Boers. In the Battle of the Bloody River, he and about five hundred white men survived an attack of 10.000 well-armed Zulu warriors. For a long time he was a staunch rival of Potgieter, until their final reconciliation.
